L.P.S.(Liner Protection System)

and T.E.P(Top Edge Protect)

Our Liner Protection System prevents board melt of the rinks edges and assists in maintaining the rink liner so it can be revived for annual usage. Roll out the 50'  roll and fasten with liner clips or screw it to your frame. You can also cut it in more manageable lengths like 12' pieces to avoid buckling if your rink framing boards are uneven. A great concept that is easy to install and pays for itself easily over 1 1/2 years. Think of it this way...........You pay for your liner the first year and add the Liner Protection System (L.P.S.) at an approx cost of half again. The second year you have no shipping cost, no replacement liner cost, no L.P.S. cost and you save time and money not to mention the environment. You could get up to 3 years or more from your liner if you store it, take care of it and mark it properly.

With the Liner Protection System (L.P.S.) You accomplish 3 things

1. You help out the environment by utilizing your liner for not 1 year, but 2-3 or more.

2. You help out your pocketbook by saving your liner replacement  cost for 3 years or more. Save time too!

3. You help out your rink surface and edges by virtually eliminating "board melt" therefore extending your skate times daily or weekly/monthly.

You will need to address the storage of your liner for 8 months. Safe storage is a must so mice and other hazards are kept away enabling you to re use "WITHOUT  HASSLE" your liner. If you are a new rink builder or have never had a puncture or tear in your liner you will not understand the phrase above "without hassle"  Some of you reading this now, will only smile and nod. 6 mil or thicker liners  are more durable and will make this system work. See Liner Linguistics for a frank discussion on liners in general.

IN SUMMARY: It does'nt matter how thick your liner is if you have no means of protection for it. Damage from shovels, snow blowers, skates, figure skate pics, hockey sticks and all other means of wear and tear is NOW avoidable with the L.P.S. Liner Protection System.

IF YOU ARE USING PLYWOOD FRAMING FOR YOUR RINK OR HAVE HIGHER BOARDS THAN SHOWN IN OUR PICTURES YOU ARE STILL ABLE TO USE THE  L.P.S.    THE PUCKBOARD PART IS TACKED ON COVERING THE 4" , 6", 8", or 12" ABOVE THE WATER LINE THEREFORE SAVING THE LINER FROM DESTRUCTION. YOU MAY EVEN FASTEN THE L.P.S. WITH LINER CLIPS (not advisable with the wider L.P.S.options) THEREFORE AVOIDING ALL HOLES FROM SCREWS OR NAILS. THIS PICTURE SHOWS LINER CLIPS AND THE BLACK LINE IS THE LINE, WHERE WE DRILL THE PILOT HOLES FOR THE SCREWS IF USING SCREWS. SHOWN HERE IS A TRANSLUCENT LINER SO YOU CAN DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN L.P.S. AND LINER.

15 Years ago we introduced the first liner protection system with our first J-brace which we still use today. This piece of hardware allowed the rink builder to save their liner annually for as many years as they wished. It has not been until recently that saving the liner has been more of a priority as the price of raw materials, namely petroleum based resins used for poly rink liners has shot up. Again the option is yours to use the built in liner protection system which we have offered for 15 years or the new Liner Protection System which utilizes Puck Board (as seen in every professional arena across North America) Here are the Yay's and Nay's

Yay!  1.) Original liner protection utilizes taking your liner outside your frame by sandwiching it between your rink frame and a secondary piece of 1"x 6" piece of spruce.  Some rink builders ripcut 3/8th plywood. Saves your liner for use next year. Saves money re: taxes, shipping costs, and replacement liner cost and helps out the environment.

Nay! 1.) minimal cost investment of extra wood. Potential for board melt on the inside of your rink from the suns rays hitting darker spruce or pressure treated wood frame.

Yay! 2.) Your second liner protection  option is the NEW L.P.S. option. One less step as you just lay your liner inside your frame and sandwich with Puck Board L.P.S. It is white and reflects the heat of the sun virtually eliminating board melt. It looks amazing and takes abuse in stride. Does not crack or chip or breakdown in any way. Saves money and helps the environment allowing for the re use of poly liner for several years.

Nay! 2.) cost of investment in product first year. Hassle of packing up and keeping safe from punctures your large liner purchase. Smaller rink size liners are easier to save.

If you would like a product to protect your liner at the top of your 2" x 8" or 2" x 10" and works in conjunction with current L.P.S. then see our T.E.P.  When installing L.P.S use short drywall screws and have used a counter sink bit in our drill. No predrilling necessary in the puckboard as the counter sink bit does both. The drywall screw head becomes flush with puckboard and when drilled within an inch of the top of puckboard. We recommend a screw every 12" to 18" to minimize buckling which may occur during temperature changes. Cut the puckboard in the corners and at all seams where one piece of L.P.S. butts up to another. See picture of corner below where angle is cut to minimize the chance of puncturing the liner.

Use a saw or tin snips to cut the angle.  You may be asking yourself  right now why you would put a screw hole through your liner.  It defeats the purpose?  You are putting your screw hole through the liner  many inches above your water level in a controlled fashion. In order for this to work and save your liner you will want to mark your liner for placement next year. You will need to choose what works best for you in terms of L.P.S. There are 4 widths all 50' long.  Widths are 4", 6"', 8", and 12".  Although  your rolls are 50' long, when installing you will want to cut them in to manageable sections and usually as long as your rink frame 2" x  's. or your plywood framing pieces.

If using liner clips which are not as permanent as screws then one clip every foot to 2 feet is a good choice. They are recommended when using Top Edge Protect as T.E.P.  will hold your clips in place.
