J-BRACES:
SERIES 2 (Rink Frame):
comes
with every rink... the workhorse of the backyard rinks
world and described below.
SERIES 3 (Slim line):
for
those rink masters who are installing 4x8 plywood backboards.
This allows the backboards to snug right up against your
rink frame. They also can be used down the length in conjunction
with 2"x 4 " 's and patch plywood (1'x2'
squares) for big support for severely unleveled sites
of more than 10"-12".
SERIES 4 (Sports
Court):
specifically
designed for sports courts where you don' t wish to, or
can not pound stakes in to your surface. The series
4 are used in conjunction with cinder/cement blocks
. The J-Braces are also perfect for "In Line"
sites as the premise is identical to that of a sport
court set up.
SUPPORT
AND TECHNIQUE FOR YOUR BACKYARD RINKS FRAMING:
We
are now offering a comprehensive section on the different
hardware and framing concepts for ice rinks on sports
courts, tennis courts, parking lots and regular
backyard rink areas. It is now in the e-book including
photos for the first time ever on the world wide web.
An absolutely huge amount of information for the backyard
rinks professional or amateur. See the highlights of more
than 37 8.5x11" pages of secrets and very cool
info on our cover page under e-book, but for now see below
for some basic Ultimate Backyard Rinks J-Brace series 2
hardware talk!!
Now more about our J-braces
......this section we try really hard to pat ourselves
on the back because we have an amazingly excellent
product capable of extreme flexibility and versatility.
So much in fact that our J-brace can handle any framing
material from 3/4 '' plywood and from 2"x8"s on up
to and including stacked 2"x8"s .....of course, this totaling
15" or more in framing height. Not only does the
J-brace offer support above ground but also offers the
needed support below ground level which is completely
necessary when dealing with an unleveled site. This may
not make sense to the beginner rink builder however trust
us " the rink pro's. " A huge percentage of sites,
backyards, outdoor areas where you may feel inclined to
put a rink are not remotely close to being level. The
biggest problem is that rink builders confuse
flat and level
and then assume that all is well in rink land (with out
checking) and construct a frame and lay in their liner
to find that they have just wasted much time and money
because they did not check their pitch, grade, or level
of their site. The scenario is.... .............water
pouring over in their lowest corner and bare liner in
the other because their boards are not high enough to
contain the water in the low side/end. YES......we have
heard this story too many times to count and all from
those good folk who guess at
what they need as framing material.
You will need a special product, a special
rink system, a special set of instructions to guide you
through and allow you to handle all of this and save you
from all the trauma you will put yourself through by failing
to observ
e the above. We've got what you need!!!!!!!!
More about our awesome J-brace..........The J-brace will
also allow you to construct your rink and have your liner
outside the frame. Ever notice in any of our
pictures of the rink... the liner showing? That's
because it's not there. It is outside the frame!! It is
outside the frame because that is how we prefer to build
our rink and............... because we can on a level
site. It allows for more flexibility with puckboard corners
in backboard/goal
net section. Shovels and sticks do not get snagged
on torn liners. You may build your rink anyway
you like and with the J-brace you have the option to switch
in years to come. If you don't like the liner on the inside
then put it outside, if you don't like it outside put
it inside. Just below you will notice the installation
of a frame guard. The liner is outside the frame(on level
sites up to max 6"-8" of water/ice depth only) and the frameguard then slides between the rink frame and J- Brace series 2 sandwiching
the liner
and protecting it from damage. Minimal screws at the top
and above the water line holding the frame guard in place
are then needed for the balance of the length. The choice
is yours if you have a level site and you can 't beat
choice. We have three versions of the J-brace but
the series 2 comes standard with our rink kits, the others
are for tennis courts, backboards and specialty situations,
feel free to discuss your situation with us so as we may
direct you with the appropriate hardware or see our e-book
for pictures and discussions on the other 2 different
hardware styles.
So here we go again patting ourselves on the back about
our hardware...the J-brace that is!!!
Now you are probably thinking show me a picture of this
so called amazing J-brace .....I want to see the goods!!!
Just below we have included a picture of the 3 J-Brace styles before they are put into the ground. Lots of info in our E Book as well on the J-Brace and their uses. For a time also offering our E Book number 2 " What
it takes to make it to the
bigs" what ever that next level in hockey (if
you are a hockey family) is for you, your team, or your
child. You will find this full of excellent info and comes
from families and coaches that have been there, or are
working hard to get there.
More about the J-Brace!!! Not only will our Series 2 J-brace hold
up the frame, fasten all the seams, stake into the ground,
allow the liner to be used outside the frame, add below
ground support for those unleveled sites.... but it will
also bind together two pieces of framing material such
as two 2"x 8" s if you require a frame 15" tall/wide for
those infamous unleveled sites. Just remember that for
those unleveled sites you will require
extra support outside your frame and more frequent placement of those supporting J braces for those unleveled sites
as water weighs 10 lbs per gallon. If your site is
unlevelled by more than 8-10 inches we recommend the J brace
series 3 which accommodates those extra 2" x 4"
supports @ 45 degrees angle at each seam to handle that
extra water weight from with in your perimeter. Pic just above before L.P.S. and puckboard corners have been added.
Here's a short story about one of our
neighbors who built a rink on an unleveled site. When
all was said and done his low side framing is 26" tall
and is supported with 4"x4"s and contains 6000 gallons
of water and its not a very large rink !!!! p.s.
He uses our liner and basic concept but his liner is inside
his frame, he just uses 4"x4"s for support. yikes!!!
That's all for now, on J-Braces .........
J-Braces below from left to right, Series 2 supplied in every Kit as a standard, Series 3 for un leveled sites and used in conjunction with 2" x 4" @ 45 degree angle for extra support OR for a slim line needed for the addition of 4' x 8' plywood backboards and finally the Series 4 for sport court and patio braces used in conjunction with cinder block for those moments when you can not, or wish not to penetrate your ground cover. Also used for binding 2 @ 2"x? frame materials together with no screws. |
Shown here is our new White Patch Tape.
Shown along side the roll of tape is a bag with a 5" gash. The tape is holding the bag together and no water is escaping. Excellent option for patching short seams or damage caused from punctures. Not recommended for layer patching. In other words .....placing 2 or more pieces together in overlap configuration, to make a patch wider, therefore covering a hole wider than the tape. It is o.k. to lay a second piece of poly down and fasten it over your larger hole/gash with this 2 inch wide tape x 5" diameter roll.

All About Lines
If you love lines and want your rink to have lines this is how you do it.. They look amazing. We stock blue lines, red lines, blue dots and red dots and a complete striping and dot kit for your amazing rink. See our order page to submit your choice. Below is a rink all lined up.
The above rink has incorporated the Line and Dot Kit with a few extra circles added for fun. The lines in the Line and Dot Kit are 2" wide lines. If you desire a wider line add the "extra wide" lines package. Then you can use the 2" wide lines for the radius circles.
All you need is a spray bottle, a paint roller for water appplication, a bucket, and a ball of string to apply your lines straight. If you are doing radius circles then you will need a piece of 1" x2" with 2 drilled holes and a nail. Have fun with this amazing look.
Have the best rink ever and we are glad to help. Brian
